whanau (Family)

Whanau represents the strong bond of love, unity and protection among the family, including extended family and loved ones. The love and support given to and by whanau. It is shown in the sculpture by the young fonds of the silver fern being lovingly protected by the older fronds which is the whole concept of the love and protection of the family.

The Koru
​
The Koru is the uncoiling of the new frond of the silver fern and therefore represents new beginnings, growth, strength, peace and love. It very much symbolises positive change and awakening as well as harmoniously moving to a new phase of life.

double Koru
​
The Koru is the uncoiling of the new frond of the silver fern and therefore represents new beginnings, growth, strength, peace and love. It very much symbolises positive change and awakening as well as harmoniously moving to a new phase of life.

Having two Korus together, this design is representing the close bond between siblings, especially twins.


The Koru with teardrop

Having a teardrop within it, is a little reminder of the difficulties that have been overcome to get to this point of new beginnings.

THE FISH HOOK

The Fish Hook represents abundance, good health and prosperity. Also representing respect for the sea and all life within it as well as the abundance given by nature to sustain life when nature is respected.
​


THE FISH HOOK and whale tail
​
The Fish Hook represents abundance, good health and prosperity. Combined with the Whale Tale gives protection, speed and strength.
Also representing respect for the sea and all life within it as well as the abundance given by nature to sustain life, safe travel and close bond between animal and human.


The Whale Tail

The Whale Tail represents protection... as the whales used to circle the fishermen's canoes to protect them from sharks. It also represents speed and strength as well as the close bond between animal and human and respect for the sea and all life within it.

MOTHER/PARENT AND CHILD
​
The Parent and child represents the love and protection given by an elder to a child. The nurturing and love given to help a child grow as is depicted in this design by the new frond of the silver fern being protected by the older frond.
​


THE PATH OF LIFE WITH HEART
​
The Path of Life represents that the path of life carries on regardless of all it's twists and turns.
Having the Heart within it represents the love that is found along that path.
​


THE PATH OF LIFE WITH korus
​
The Path of Life represents that the path of life carries on regardless of all it's twists and turns.
Having the Korus within it is representing two people coming together on that path.
​


THE PATH OF LIFE WITH WAVE
​
The Path of Life represents that the path of life carries on regardless of all it's twists and turns.
Having the Wave within it represents the ability to move forward on that path when feeling stuck.

THE heart
​
The Heart represents love, emotional balance, compassion and generosity.
Generosity, because it can be given to someone who has generously given their heart and love to others.
It represents the strong bond of love and protection between two people, including friendships, and the nurturing needed to sustain that relationship.

THE Teardrop

The Teardrop represents healing, comfort, reassurance and positive energy.
The reassurance comes into it because it can be given to someone going through a difficult time, illness or grievance as reassurance you will be by their side through their time of need.
​


THE Teardrop with wave
​
The Teardrop represents healing, comfort, reassurance and positive energy. The reassurance comes into it because it can be given to someone going through a difficult time, illness or grievance as reassurance you will be by their side through their time of need.

Having the Teardrop within it represents having the ability to move forward when the time is right.

THE circle of life
​
The Circle of Life represents that the cycle of life has no beginning and no end.
It also represents inner harmony and balance and that everything has its place within the circle of life.
Having the Koru within it represents the continuous supply of love and growth given throughout life.

THE twist (pikoura)
​
The Pikoura represents the coming together of people, communities and cultures.
It represents the connection between people even when they move apart physically as well as different life times.

THE INFINITY twist
​
The Infinity Twist is the single twist and is the symbol of eternity. It represents the coming together of two people and their underlying love. Also representing that love is eternal and when apart, their paths will cross again whether it be in this lifetime or another.
​

THE wave
​
The Wave represents power, purpose and direction along with tranquility of the mind.
It is very cleansing & intuitive and represents the ability of moving forward with life when feeling stuck because the wave is never stagnant.


reretahi (Harmony)
​
Reretahi represents purity, balance, calmness and spiritual awareness.
Life is a balance of the four elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth.
The air is represented by the negative spaces, Fire by the eternal flame, Water by the teardrop and the Earth by the koru.
All harmoniously complimenting each other.

THE eternal flame
​
The Eternal Flame symbolises the eternity of life itself.
The love that fuels life and the abundance of all that is needed to sustain life.
It gives warmth to our body as well as our soul and it gives us the light that we need to get through our darkest times


THE horse shoe
​
The Horse Shoe represents good luck, prosperity and the ability to think ahead to the future and to make good decisions.
