The heart of the ocean is inspired by Bronwyn's love of the ocean and the belief that everything is intertwined . The heart represents that love flows through all of nature.

The whale tail represents protection. When the Maoris (in New Zealand) were fishing in their canoes and there were sharks around, the whales would circle them for protection.

The wave is representing moving forward with power, purpose and direction. The ocean is never stagnant which Bronwyn is illustrating here by the movement of the water in different directions. The wave itself is very symbolic of having the ability of moving forward with life.
